Even though it takes years to master the instrument, a question which a lot of beginners have in their minds when they first start learning guitar is “How long would it take to learn guitar well enough to play particular songs.”
We Will Be Figuring Out The Answer For That Question For You Today.
As you begin, your instructor’s first goal would be to teach you how to play chords in different ways. You will be able to understand rhythm and start strumming your guitar in the first three months of your lessons. While it may not be easy to strum and hit the right chords, Practicing 1-2 hours every week for the first three months would help you achieve that. The more time you give, the quicker you learn.
You will be able to understand your basics and assess your limitations and strengths by the end of the first three months.Being able to play most of the chords with perfection, you will move onto playing more complex ways of playing chords. Chords C, D and E are considered to be open chords which are used in a lot of songs. In this phase, your focus would be on mastering these chords. This expands your ability to play a wide range of songs instead of just a few tunes. To master these chords, the time taken is the same as it was in the first phase.
You will feel comfortable with your guitar in the fifth and sixth month. This phase will help you develop confidence in your skills. You may have not mastered playing singles by now but you would be good enough to play for an audience. In this phase you will also learn some other complex open chords such as F, Dm and Bb. Exploring scales would also begin in this stage. This phase may seem complex as it takes longer to complete. Success of this phase will have more to do with your consistency and interest towards the lessons than your skills. Many people decide to discontinue due to the complexity of this phase but the reward of going through it is very noticeable.
You will be able to play a large variety of songs for an audience once you have completed approximately 8-12 months in your guitar lessons. There is a lot to learn when it comes to guitar so you can continue your guitar lessons from here on out if you want. A big challenge for guitar learners is start tackling bare chords and by the end of the first year, you will be able to do that too. But the rewards are huge as the entire fretboard opens up to you. Guitar is a very complex instrument. How long will it take for you to learn depends how much do you really want to explore the instrument.
