A date that should already be firmly highlighted in your diaries is September 15th when Blend Mishkin’s new single featuring the vocal talents of the mighty Carlton Livingston and The Burger Project as a full backing band will be officially unleashed via Cast-A-Blast recordings.
We are truly honoured to have been able to work with Carlton Livingston as this verbal wordsmith is renowned across all time and space for being a true pioneer and having stood the test of time, consistently gracing the masses through infamous labels such as GG’s, Studio One, Dynamite, Volcano, Techniques, Taxi, Powerhouse, Jammys etc etc over his long and illustrious career.
A full teaser of the tune can be found below and whilst we approach its imminent release date we caught up with the man himself to see what insight he could give us into the mind of a living legend.

Q. So looking at your foundations, I understand you were bought up in a large family where music was already present?
My mother and sisters were singing in the church choir. I also started to sing in the Choir in school
Q. Were there any other early experiences or key people that you can attribute to you starting on/helping your musical path?
I can attribute my love of music to my mother, and my brethren “Knowledge” when I was attending “Trench Town Comprehensive High”
Q. And were there any other genres/artists that you were heavily influenced by?
Soul music had the most profound influence on my music. The artist’s that influenced me the most are Sam Cooke and Curtis Mayfield.
Q. You went from bands and harmony groups to to starting a soundsystem in the late 70′s and worked with Lone Ranger but i understand he was the singer while you were the DJ…?
Yes I started out in a group but after a while I started to Dj. I teamed up with Ranger and he was the singer then after a while we found our calling and the role was reverse
Q. You have worked with some of the most iconic and respected labels over the years. Which was the best to work with creatively?
It was a great experience and the vibes was great while working at Studio 1. I was able to choose the riddims that I wanted to sing on and had the freedom to do a lot of what I wanted to do as singer / songwriter
Q. Choir singer, Harmony band member, Soundsystem DJ, Singer,/Recording artist, Label involvement…. what was your favourite role in all of this?
Actually it was the songwriting I enjoyed the most because I had found a way to express myself
Q. You travel the world bringing your sound to the masses, what can you tell us about how the scenes in different continents compare?
In Europe they appreciate the music. On the west coast (America) they love the roots feeling
Q. Obviously other than this release with Castablast Recordings, what other upcoming projects would you like people to be aware of?
I have a release’s coming out of Hawaii, Jamaica, England and my new album will be released by a label out of France
